Geraldine A. “Gerry” Sheridan, age 72, of Bryan, Ohio, died on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, in her home. Mrs. Sheridan graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Illinois, earning her Bachelor’s degree in English, minoring in Education. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She earned a Master’s degree in Guidance from Bowling Green State University. Her teaching career began in Chicago, where she taught high school English. Upon moving to Bryan, she continued her career teaching at St. Patrick Catholic School and the Bryan Middle and High Schools, spanning twenty-five years of service. Mrs. Sheridan was an inspiration to children of all abilities, serving as a one-on-one tutor to at-risk students and as a student mentor. She was once a “Teacher of the Year” finalist in the state of Ohio. In her retirement she was a substitute teacher at St. Patrick School. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she served on the Parish Council, the Parish Foundation Committee, and as the Religious Education Coordinator. She served on the Williams County Public Library Board. She was also a member of Orchard Hills Country Club and the Williams County Retired Teachers Association. One of her passions was acting, which lead her to the Williams County Playhouse, where she was awarded a Willy Award for best actress and two for best supporting actress. Gerry wrote numerous short stories and humor columns, several of which were published in newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune and the Catholic Chronicle, and she also had a #1 selling Hallmark card one year. Gerry was known for highly positive attitude and joy that sent ripples of love, wisdom and laughter to all she met. Geraldine A. “Gerry” Sheridan was born on August 4, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of J. Earl and Margaret (Heston) Rader. She married Thomas E. Sheridan on October 13, 1962, in Lombard, Illinois, and he survives. Also surviving are her children, Tim Sheridan, of Bryan, Julie (Lars) Eng, of Los Altos, California, Lorie (Rick) Errhalt, of Hereford, Arizona, and Ed (Nicole) Sheridan, of Middlebury, Indiana, eight grandchildren, Michael Sheridan, Eric, Sarah and Kate Eng, Rick and Alec Errhalt, Matthew and Jacob Sheridan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is one sister, Betty (Bill) Tyminski, of Lombard, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Thomas Gerard Sheridan. Services for Gerry Sheridan will be held on Monday, February 1, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father James Halleron officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery in Bryan. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 31. A scripture service will be held at 8:00 P.M. on Sunday. Memorials in the name of Geraldine A. “Gerry” Sheridan are requested to St. Patrick Catholic School or to the Bryan Area Foundation in the name of the Sheridan family.
