Harley D. Kennedy, Jr, age 74, of Bryan, Ohio, died early Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in his home. Mr. Kennedy was employed by Diehl Incorporated in Defiance, Ohio, retiring in 1999 with 19 years of service. He recently was employed part-time by Casebere Motor Sales in Bryan, Ohio. He and his wife owned and operated the Plaza Motel in Bryan for nineteen years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of John D. Smith Post #10 of the American Legion in Edgerton, Ohio. He was also a member of Bryan Moose Lodge #1064. Mr. Kennedy was active in numerous Masonic organizations, including the Edgerton Masonic Lodge #357, where he was Past Master and longtime Secretary, and Bryan Masonic Lodge #215, where he served as Treasurer. He was a member and Past High Priest of Northwest Chapter #45, R.A.M.; Past District Deputy Grand High Priest of the State of Ohio; a holder of the Meritorious Service Award of Grand Chapter; a member and Past Illustrious Master of Bryan Council #101, R.&S.M. of Ohio; a member and past Commander of Bryan Commandery K.T. #74; a holder of the Meritorious Award of Grand Commandery, of Ohio; a member of Bryan Commandery, Defiance Commandery, Van Wert Commandery and the Tri-State Drill Teams; a member of the Bryan Temple Board, the Yeoman of York, Angola, Indiana, Zenobia Shrine, Toledo, Ohio, the Northwest Shrine Club in Williams County, serving as Secretary, the Ancient Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, the Knight York Cross of Honor, serving as Hospitaller, and the York Rite Soverign College, where he held the The Purple Cross. He was also a charter member of the Northwest High Twelve Club #535; a member and Past Excellent Chief of Knight Masons of Ireland; a member and Past High Priest, Appolo Chapter R.A.M. of Ohio; a member of Royal Order of Scotland; a member and Past Grand Tall Cedar-Northwest Forest #187; a member of Blackstone College #195, Findlay, Ohio; a member and Past Soverign of Northwest Allied Masonic Degrees; Order of the Silver Trowell; Order of the High Priesthood; and Knight Commander of The Temple. Harley D. Kennedy, Jr., was born on November 5, 1931, in Monroeville, Indiana, the son of Harley D. and Mary (Pierce) Kennedy, Sr. He married Betty E. Steele on June 5, 1954, in Edgerton, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Kennedy is survived by one son, David Lee Kennedy, of Bryan, Ohio, one brother, Eugene L. (Virginia) Kennedy, of Ashley, Indiana, and his nieces and nephews. Services for Harley D. Kennedy, Jr. will be on Friday, March 31, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, with Pastor James O. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by John D. Smith Post #10 of the American Legion, Edgerton. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, with a Masonic Service to be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Memorials in the name of Harley D. Kennedy, Jr. may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
