Russell F. Stambaugh

Russell F. Stambaugh, age 87, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 30, 2010, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he was a patient, following an extended illness. Mr. Stambaugh graduated from Stryker High School in 1942 and then served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945, during World War II, stationed in Berma, China and India. He received battle medals for the Asiatic Pacific, American Campaign, Efficiency & Rifle Marksmanship, the theater patch, and a patch signifying his role in the marauder and a Presidential Unit Citation. Upon returning home, he worked as a screw machine operator at The Aro Corporation for 43 years, from March 1946 to March 1989, receiving a “Perfect Attendance Award” for twelve years. His memberships included Bryan V.F.W. Post #2489, Bryan American Legion Post #284, and Disabled American Veterans. Russell F. Stambaugh was born on November 17, 1922, in Stryker, Ohio, the son of Roy and Elma (Brace) Stambaugh. He married Sharon Hoffman on July 10, 1954, in Bryan, Ohio and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Russell “Gus” Stambaugh, Jr., Phil (Vicki) Stambaugh and Kris Stambaugh, all of Bryan, two grandchildren, Wesley and Mariah Stambaugh, one brother, Bob Stambaugh, of Bryan, and five sisters, Virgie King, of West Unity, Ohio, his twin, Ruth Davis, of Williams Center, Ohio, Mary Ussery and Dorothy Sheets, both of Bryan, and Donna (Dick) Oyer, of Stryker. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucy Burns, and two brothers, Glen Stambaugh and Ellery Stambaugh. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 4, 2010, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with services immediately following, at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Larry Snavely officiating. Interment will be in Fountain Grove Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by Bryan VFW Post #2489. Memorials may be given to the Williams County Humane Society.
