Joyce I. Shaffer, age 73, of rural Stryker, Ohio, died at 4:30 A.M on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, Ohio, after an extended illness. Mrs. Shaffer was a graduate of Edgerton High School and was employed as a press operator at Champion Plastics in Bryan and also was a cook at various area restaurants, including Lester's and L and K Restaurant. While living in Phoenix, Arizona, she started State Office Supply Company. She was a longtime member of Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233 and Stryker First Baptist Church. Joyce I. Shaffer was born on December 3, 1936, near Edgerton, Ohio, the daughter of Forrest S. and Frances T. (Goebel) Krill. She married Loren R. Shaffer in March of 1961, and he survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Frances Dee (Tom) Heston, of Montpelier, Ohio, Roberta “Bobbi” (John) Sickles, of Stryker, and Cindy VomLehn, of Phoenix, six grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, three sisters, Shirley Beal, of Whitehouse, Ohio, Elaine Poorman, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and Jeanne (Wayne) Warner, of Bryan, and two brothers, Frederick (Sue) Krill, of Knightstown, Indiana, and Dennis (Karen) Krill, of Waterloo, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, John Joseph Steffes II, and a great-granddaughter, Toni Marie Douglas. Visitation for Joyce I. Shaffer will be held on Monday, June 28, 2010, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with Dr. Jeffery Woolum officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
