Jerome J. “Jake” Hartman, age 86, of Bryan, Ohio, died early on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, in his home. Mr. Hartman was a lifelong farmer and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan. He was active in the building of St. Patrick’s first church building, was a member of Bryan Knights of Columbus Council #1915, and was a member of the Bishop Rappe Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, of which he was a past Faithful Navigator and assistant to the state officers and very rarely missed attending a state convention or national convention. He was also a member of the Bryan Moose Lodge and was formerly a member of the Farm Bureau Council and a 4-H advisor and was a charter member of the 1566 investment club. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in China during World War II and was a member of the West Unity American Legion Post #669 and Bryan Am-Vets Post #54. Jerome J. Hartman was born on September 1, 1923, in Antwerp, Ohio, the son of John H. and Kathryn (Bulach) Hartman. He married Hilda V. Wehrle on January 26, 1946, in Blakeslee, Ohio, and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Richard (Kathy) Hartman, of San Antonio, Texas, two daughters, Rebecca (Lonny) Wilson, of Paulding, Ohio, and Linda (Allen) Flesher, of Bryan, fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Marcella Stark, of Edgerton, and a stepsister, Mary Catherine Reinhart, of Bryan. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert, in 1997, a brother, Francis Hartman, two half brothers, Roy and John Hartman, a stepsister, Clara Marie Jerger, and his stepmother, Anna Wortkoetter Hartman. Visitation for Jerome J. “Jake” Hartman will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. A scripture service will follow at 8:00 P.M. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father James Halleron officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery with grave side military rites. Memorials in the name of Jerome J. “Jake” Hartman may be given to the St. Patrick School Angel Fund or to St. Patrick Church.
