F. Vernon “Tubby” Grim, age 93, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 7:45 A.M. on Friday, April 30, 2010, in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Grim worked on the T and I Streetcar Railroad at Ohio Art Building No. 3 for many years and then worked seventeen years at Bard Manufacturing, where he was a supervisor. He then went to work for Denver Calvin before starting his own well drilling business. He built several houses in the Bryan area and was the founder of Rachel Heights Subdivision, named after his wife and where two streets, Anna Lane and Dorthy Drive, are named for his daughters. He was an active member of the Lick Creek Church of the Brethren, an avid woodworker and enjoyed working with Williams County Habitat for Humanity on the building of several homes. He served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in Manilla, Phillippines. F. Vernon Grim was born on October 7, 1916, in Stryker, Ohio, the son of Anna Laura (Roux) and Frank Grim. He married his wife of seventy years, Rachel M. Lovetinsky, on July 15, 1939, in Auburn, Indiana, and she survives. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jeff Weston, of Asheville, North Carolina, Kelly Weston Mann, of Davison, Michigan, Scott (Aimee) Harner, of Centerville, Ohio, and David (Amanda) Harner, of Defiance, Ohio, two great-granddaughters, Michelle and Lacy Mann, one great-grandson, Aiden Lee Harner, and one son-in-law, Verle Harner, of Bryan. He also leaves three nieces, Sue Winebar, of Edgerton, Ohio, Sharon Webster, of Wauseon, Ohio, and Debby Marvin, of Bryan, and seven nephews, Richard, Ted and Bruce Zigler, Rodney and Jim Lovetinsky and Elwood and Stan Gorom. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Anna Grim Harner, in 1988, and Dorthy Grim Weston, in 1975, two brothers, Henry and Wayne Grim, and one sister, Edna Calvin. Visitation for F. Vernon “Tubby” Grim will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. in the Lick Creek Church of the Brethren with Reverend Eric Wetzel and Reverend Dorothy Ritchey-Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery with grave side military rites to follow. Memorials in the name of F. Vernon “Tubby” Grim may be given to Brown Cemetery or to Williams County Habitat for Humanity.
