Martha was raised with Sonny, Suzy, Jigger, JuJu Hall in Clearwater, Florida. Her family owned the bus and taxi companies. Her mother drove the first beach bus to Clearwater Beach. As a young girl living on the beach, Martha won a ribbon for jumping rope. Another childhood memory was the day she asked Babe Ruth for his autograph while he putted at the Bellevue Biltmore. Martha met Shorty Stockman sitting on her parents front porch at 606 N. Ft. Harrison. He was in Clearwater caddying. After walking by many times, whistling, Shorty courted Martha. He was raised on a farm in Bryan, Ohio. Soon after, Martha, with her southern accent lived in Bryan in an old farmhouse at Orchard Hills Country Club. Dick Greene said she worked twenty-five hours a day every day. While Shorty was mowing, Martha learned what a brown cow was and how to set up a kitchen. She made many friends that became lifetime friends. Martha and Shorty had two children, Arthur and Carol. Every winter from December to February was spent with her family in Clearwater, Florida. Later in life, this changed to vacations in Arizona, or Hot Springs, Arkansas. In her most recent years, she was able to travel to Clearwater with her sister, JuJu, who now resides in Alabama. Her weekly appointment at Expressions Salon (Sandy) brought her joy. She loved to visit frequently on the telephone with her grandson, Travis Nowak (Kyla), in Las Vegas, Nevada, and her granddaughter, Lisa Dickey (Ken), in Boston, Massachusetts. Fridays and Sundays were spent shopping and lunching with grandson, Matt Nowak, and daughter, Carol (Gary Beers). She loved to knit afghans and dish cloths for gifting. Her favorite Christmas gift to give was her homemade peanut brittle. With her drapes open, she loved to look at the golf course. Her eyes lit up when Jeff Frank, Greg, Matt or Lynn stopped by to visit. Martha was able to leave this world in her own home on December 23, 2009, without suffering. Other family members surviving are grandson, Adam Stockman, nieces, Debbie Venable and family, Donna Morris (Dick) and family, and Mardy Wilkes and family, nephew, Fil Hall (Amy) and family, and sister-in-law, Mary Hall. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 30, at the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton, Ohio from 5-7 p.m. Her funeral will be on Thursday, December 31, at 11:00 a.m. with burial at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton.
