Wendell J. Goebel

Wendell J. Goebel departed this life on December 26, 2009, at his home in Edgerton, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. After graduating from Edgerton High School he worked in Edgerton at Lutterbein Lumber Company and Edgerton Lumber Company. Wendell then began his lifetime career in manufacturing at The Aro Corporation in Bryan, Ohio. During his years with Aro, Wendell held many positions from the shop floor through management. He retired from Aro in 1998 with 39 years of service. In his retirement he enjoyed the outdoor work and friendship of the crew at Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton. Throughout his life Wendell enjoyed a woodworking talent that he shared with his family and friends. From a young age he enriched his life with a passion for reading. He was also an avid fan of Ohio sports teams, especially the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. Wendell cherished the times he and his wife, Marilyn, spent traveling throughout the United States. In later years much of this time was spent exploring the history of the southwest. Wendell was born to Isador and Kathryn (Frager) Goebel on January 12, 1938, on a farm near Arctic, Indiana. While attending high school in Edgerton, Wendell met his future wife, Marilyn J. Snyder. He and Marilyn were wed on October 13, 1956, in Edgerton. Wendell leaves behind to cherish his memory Marilyn, his wife of 53 years, daughters, Amy and Jim Hornyak, of Bryan, Myra Schilperoot and fiance, Russ Notestine, of Defiance, grandsons, Seth Baerlin, Caleb Hornyak, Lucas Hornyak, Joshua Shaffer, Jory and Sarah Morr, Tyler Schilperoot and Casey and Shelley Schilperoot. Wendell also leaves behind six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Nelson, of Edgerton, and Margaret and Ron Baumgardner, of Greenville, three brothers, Ted and Delores, of Edgerton, Lavon, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Glen and Helen Ann, of Bryan, and Al "Butch" and Deborah, also of Fort Wayne. He also leaves many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Joseph, a sister-in-law, Sharon Goebel, and a brother-in-law, Ben Nelson. Visitation for Wendell J. Goebel will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Services will be private with interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton. Memorials are requested to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Hospital Hospice and Home Health, 433 West High Street, Bryan, Ohio 43506, or to the National Diabetes Association.
