Gwen Takacs, age 69, of Bryan, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 5:35 A.M. on June 5, 2010, after a courageous battle against lung cancer. Gwen was a longtime manager at WBNO in Bryan and a familiar face at Chief Supermarkets. One of her favorite quotes and her life's mantra, as testified by those who knew her, was: "What does love look like? It has hands to help others. It has feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. This is what love looks like." (St. Augustine). Despite her many ailments, she was a true giver in many respects. She will be sorely missed. Her family extends many thanks and much gratitude to the staffs of the Bryan Rehabilitation Center and the Bryan Hospital ICU for their kind and professional care and to her many friends throughout the community. Gwendolyn Alice Baker was born on September 4, 1940, to parents John Baker and Gwendolyn Mansfield-Baker in Fenton, Michigan. Surviving are two sons, Russ (Jill) Barnd, of Bryan, and Dennis (Sjannie) Barnd, of Tacoma, Washington; four grandchildren, Melissa Barnd, of Columbus, Ohio, Tony Barnd, of Santa Paula, California, Kristi Barnd, of Bryan, and Christina Barnd, of Fayette, Ohio; two brothers, David (Norma) Baker, of Inverness, Florida, and Raymond Baker, of Wauseon, Ohio; and three sisters, Shirley (Lawrence) Bialecki, of Maumee, Ohio, Janet (Bob) Savage, of Sunnyvale, California, and Donna (Dan) Gravance, of California; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gwendolyn Baker Mansfield-Grime and one brother, Phillip Baker. Please honor her work and memory by making contributions to any of her favorite community organizations, Melbern United Methodist Church or the Williams County Fair Foundation or Junior Achievers of Williams County in lieu of flowers.
