Ben A. Kurtz, age 77, of Edon, Ohio, died at 8:00 A.M. on Sunday, May 31, 2010, at Evergreen Manor Nursing Center, where he was a patient. Mr. Kurtz was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Army as a tank driver. He was employed by Metaldyne in Edon, Ohio, retiring with forty-two years of service, and farmed with Roger Bennett for over twenty years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ben A. Kurtz was born on June 2, 1932, near Edon, Ohio, the son of Jonas and Lela (Southwell) Kurtz. He married Alice M. Govin on July 7, 1956, in Montpelier, Ohio, and she survives. He is also survived by two sons, Terry (Janet) Kurtz, of Edon, and Tim (Mary Jane) Kurtz, of Montpelier, three grandchildren, Jaime (Brendan) Hickey, Jackie (Rocky) Barrand and Jarrett Kurtz, two great-grandchildren, Kia and Lauren Hickey, and one sister, Arlene Pepple, of Hudson, Michigan. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Al Kurtz, and a sister Kate Michaelson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio. Services will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Eric Dailey officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier, Ohio. Grave side military rites will be conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662. Memorials in the name of Ben A. Kurtz may be given to the American Cancer Society.
