Larry R. Shade of rural Stryker, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Larry fought an extended battle with cancer but in the end it did not beat him. He was a graduate of Bryan High School and Tri-State University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Larry was employed by GM Powertrain in Defiance, Ohio, as Technical Manager-Manufacturing Engineering, retiring in 2004. He took great pride in his forty-two years of service with General Motors. Larry was a member of the American Foundrymen Society and in his retirement enjoyed spending time with his family, boating and fishing on Lake Erie, and working on cars, especially a 1957 Corvette, which he was restoring. Larry R. Shade was born on September 4, 1941, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Ralph and Gonda (Replogle) Shade. He married Kay Ann Smith-Davis on November 23, 1972, in Stryker and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Aaron Shade, of Alvordton, Ohio, Scott Shade, of Stryker, Julie (Ben) Rosenbauer, of Chillicothe, Ohio, Kristie (Michael) Fennicle, of Wauseon, and Sheri (Kirk) Davenport, of Defiance, Ohio, his mother Gonda Shade, of Bryan, nine grandchildren, McKenna and Aysha Shade, Austin Shade, Amanda Miller, Nathan Rosenbauer, Darrin and Carson Fennicle and Lilli and Dayton Davenport, and one sister, Debra (Lloyd) Towne, of Bryan. He was preceded in death by his father and two grandsons, Joshua and Daniel Rosenbauer. Visitation for Larry R. Shade will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010, from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Services will follow at 6:00 P.M. in the Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Reichert officiating. Memorials may be given to FSMA (Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy), 925 Busse Road, Elk Grove Village, Illinois 60007, in memory of his grandsons, Joshua and Daniel Rosenbauer.
