Helene Houck, age 95, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 5:40 P.M. on Friday, December 10, 2010, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center, where she was a resident. Mrs. Houck was a 1933 graduate of Bellevue High School, Bellevue, Ohio, and moved to Bryan in 1937. She was employed as manager of the dress department at the Charles Store in Bryan, then operated Bryan Auto and Home Supply with her husband. She then was employed as head cashier with City Loan and Savings in Bryan and then hand colored photographs for John Davidson Studio in Bryan for eight years. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in in Bryan, the Ladies of Moose, Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233 Auxiliary and the Bryan Senior Citizens. She was also a former Cub Scout Den Mother. She loved dancing and was an avid card player. Helene Houck was born on February 10, 1916, in Bellevue, Ohio, the daughter of Maynard and Mable Edna (Geist) Jewell. She married Robert Houck on February 4, 1937, in Bryan and he preceded her in death in 1974. Mrs. Houck is survived by one son, Jerry Houck, of Bryan, Ohio, one daughter, Jewell (Thomas) Short, of Columbus, Ohio, seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Darlene Swartz. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. A scripture service will be held on Tuesday at 7:30 P.M. Services will be held in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend James Halleron officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan. Memorials are requested to St. Patrick Catholic Church or School.
