Freda Mae (Skeens) Polter, age 75, of West Unity, Ohio, died at 11:50 P.M. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, Ohio, where she was a patient after a brief illness. Mrs. Polter was employed by Mohawk Tools in Montpelier, Ohio, and then by Spangler Candy Company, in Bryan, Ohio, for ten years until her retirement. She was an avid cat lover and enjoyed raising Persian cats for over twenty years. She also loved sewing and quilting and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Freda Mae Polter was born on April 22, 1935, in Kiahsville, West Virginia, the daughter of John and Nancy (Gilkerson) Wallace. She married Ralph Polter on December 1, 1984, and he preceded her in death on March 24, 1999. Mrs. Polter is survived by five daughters, Sue (Ed) Kimpel, of Edgerton, Ohio, Nancy (Tom) Vrell, of Lagrange, Indiana, Pamela (Paul) Fry, of Bryan, Ohio, Ann Moore, of Speedway, Indiana, and Sherri Lautermilch, of Springville, California, two stepdaughters, Julie Polter, of Washington, D.C. and Judy Hefty, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and one stepson, David (Carol) Polter, of Wadsworth, Ohio. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, Josh, Greg, Michael and Aaron Kimpel, Becky Belk, Sara Walley, Philip, Preston and Paula Fry, Amanda Moore, Ashley Lautermilch, Amy Lackley, Libby and Abby Polter and Faith Hefty, eleven great-grandchildren, McKenna and Liahm Kimpel, Colin and Joanie Kimpel, Hayley and Tanner Kimpel, Maylin Kimpel, John Thomas Conteras, Elijah and Victoria Fry and Corey Lackley, one brother, Tom Wallace, of Sierra Vista, Airzona, and two sisters, Norabelle Skidmore and Barb Frame, both of Frametown, West Virginia. She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Robert Polter, four sisters, Dorothy Ramey, Ada Johnson, Victoria Adkins, and Bertha Wallace, and three brothers, Ernie, Millard and Bud Wallace. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Grave side services will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in Shiffler Cemetery, near Bryan. Memorials are requested to Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, Defiance, Ohio.
