Richard C. Boucher, age 93, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 10:50 A.M. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Hillside Country Living near Bryan, Ohio, where he was a resident. He was a graduate of Bryan High School and later graduated from Tri-State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He joined the Bryan Canning Company in 1939 as a partner and became sole owner in 1951. Richard’s mechanical engineering background enabled him to design and invent equipment for use in the canning factory. Among his inventions was a vacuum filler which enabled them to conform to precise measurements of product volume when filling cans. He served as Director on the Board of the Ohio Canners and Food Processors for a number of terms and served as its President in 1965. In 1988 he received the H.D. Brown Award, given to the person of the year by the Ohio Food Processors. He was a faithful member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan for eighty-three years, a fifty-year member of the Bryan Masonic Lodge #215, F&AM, a fifty-year member of the Bryan Rotary Club and was a Life Member of the Ohio State University Presidents Club. He also served on the Bryan Board of Public Affairs for ten years. Richard C. Boucher was born on October 17, 1917, near Bryan, the son of Charles and Winifred (Opdycke) Boucher. He married Lois M. Peters on November 23, 1947, in Bryan and she survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Sally Elsea, of Findlay, Ohio, and Jayne Boucher, of Sylvania, Ohio, one son, Bruce (Marcia) Boucher, of Noblesville, Indiana, and two grandchildren, Christopher (Schal) Boucher, of Hilliard, Ohio, and Janelle Boucher, of Cleveland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Carl and Dr. Dean Boucher. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 11, 2010, with Pastor Ruth Carter-Crist and Dr. Milton Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery. Memorials in the name of Richard C. Boucher are requested to Wesley United Methodist Church, Bryan, Ohio.
