View Video Tribute Robert A. “Rob” Whetro, age 42, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 5:37 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, shortly after admittance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, Ohio. Mr. Whetro was the co-founder of the Northwest Ohio Scholastic Journal in 2003 with his father, Hal Whetro, and served as its editor. He was a 1982 graduate of Edgerton High School and graduated from The Defiance College in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Education, specializing in learning disabilities. He taught learning disabilities classes in the Bryan, Montpelier and Edgerton school systems at the elementary and junior high levels. He worked as a sports writer for The Edgerton Earth. In August 1995 he began as a sports writer for The Bryan Times, became assistant sports editor in June 1998, and then sports editor until he left to start the Northwest Ohio Scholastic Journal in November 2003, covering youth activities in the area schools. He coached softball for several years in the summer in Edgerton and was a member of the Church of Christ in Edgerton, where he was a former youth group director and currently was in charge of the sound system. Robert A. Whetro was born on December 24, 1963, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Hal E. and Carolyn R. (Stokes) Whetro. Mr. Whetro is survived by his mother, Carolyn Whetro, of Edgerton, Ohio, one brother, Kerry (Paula) Whetro, of Mascotte, Florida, one sister, Cheryl (Andy) Hahn, of Antwerp, Ohio, six nieces and nephews and four great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Hal E. Whetro, on November 5, 2005. Services for Robert A. “Rob” Whetro will be on Friday, September 1, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. in the Edgerton Church of Christ with D.V. Dillinger officiating. Burial will be private in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton, Ohio. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 31.
