Kermit A. Lautzenhiser, age 97, of Hamilton, Indiana, died at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2006, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, Ohio, after a brief illness. Mr. Lautzenhiser was a 1926 graduate of Edon High School and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He started Farm Electric Service near Edon and then opened The Appliance Center in Edon and operated that until 1969. He then briefly taught electrical education at 4-County Joint Vocational School. Mr. Lautzenhiser was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He served with the 305 1st AAF Base Unit as a radar mechanic. He was a member of the Edon American Legion Post #662 in Edon, Ohio, for nearly sixty years, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, and the Steuben County Waste Watchers. He was formerly a member of the Edon Board of Public Affairs and was a former board member and membership chairman for the Hamilton Lake Association. Kermit A. Lautzenhiser was born on March 24, 1909, near Edon, Ohio, the son of John Arlington and Christiana “Crissie” (Dirrim) Lautzenheiser. He married Luella M. Keppler on January 19, 1941, in Van Wert, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on December 18, 1999. Mr. Lautzenhiser is survived by one daughter, Niann Lautzenhiser, of Hamilton, Indiana, one brother, Robert Ezra Lautzenheiser, of Reading, Massachusetts, and one sister, Virginia Mae Kindler, of Montpelier, Ohio. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Willis Paul and Dwight Dirrim Lautzenheiser Services for Kermit A. Lautzenhiser will be on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Edon, Ohio, with Reverend Clayton J. Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Edon Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home - Edon, Ohio, from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5. Memorials in the name of Kermit A. Lautzenhiser may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
