Robert E. Dunlap, age 88, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 1:24 A.M. on Monday, October 18, 2010, in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Dunlap was a graduate of Edgerton High School and served with the Army Engineers during World War II and at the Battle of the Bulge. He operated Dunlap Plumbing and Heating in Edgerton until his retirement. Mr. Dunlap was a member of the Edgerton Church of Christ and John D. Smith Post #10 of the Edgerton American Legion and was a life member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and NRA. He also was a former longtime member of the Edgerton BPA. A current member of the Edgerton Historical Society, he was given its first Historian Award. He was an avid woodworker and writer of historical accounts and his own “Flights of Fancy.” Robert E. Dunlap was born on December 25, 1921, in Edgerton, Ohio, the son of Earl J. and Iva M. (Paine) Dunlap. He married Rose Ella Buchs on October 23, 1947, in Butler, Indiana, and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Perry Dunlap, of Bryan, Ohio, one daughter, Christy Dunlap, of Edon, Ohio, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Walley and Wanda Smith, and one brother, Boyd “Doc” Dunlap. Grave side services for Robert E. Dunlap will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton with D.V. Dillinger officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
