Georgia Grace Shaffer, age 91, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away peacefully at 2:05 A.M. on Saturday, August 28, 2010, in her home, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. Mrs. Shaffer taught elementary school at Lincoln School in Bryan and at one-room school houses in rural Ohio. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan. She was also an avid bridge player and deep sea fisher in the Florida Keys. She loved traveling and exploring various parts of the world, especially France. She also loved cooking, entertaining and homemaking and will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Georgia Grace Shaffer was born on February 22, 1919, in Elmira, Ohio, the daughter of Daniel D. and Ida (Gigax) Frey. She married her husband of sixty-one years, Wayne E. Shaffer, on June 4, 1949, in Braily, Ohio, and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Julie Shaffer, of Atlanta, Georgia, and a granddaughter, India Duranthon, also of Atlanta, two sisters, Virginia Frey, of Toledo, Ohio, and Anna Wynn, of Adrian, Michigan, and one brother, Stanley (Pat) Frey, of Archbold, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Daniel Shaffer, in 1977. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Services will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with Pastor Dwight Bowers officiating. Interment will be in Lauber Hill Cemetery, near Archbold. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Hospital Hospice, 443 West High Street, Bryan, Ohio 43506, or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of North America at www.alzfdn.org.
