George J. Scantlen

George J. “Jim” Scantlen, age 73, of Bryan, Ohio, and formerly a long-time resident of Defiance County, died at 7:55 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2007, in his home after a brief illness. Mr. Scantlen was an electrician for General Motors Powertrain in Defiance, Ohio, retiring in 1994 with 32 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local #211 in Defiance. George J. “Jim” Scantlen was born on September 26, 1933, near Stryker, Ohio, the son of Donald Paul and Marian (Clark) Scantlen. He married Ellen Grimes on January 28, 1961, in Defiance, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Scantlen is survived by three daughters, Patricia Scantlen and Terri (Brian) Chittenden, both of Hicksville, Ohio, and Sandy Scantlen, of Bryan, Ohio, one son, Jeff (Loria) Scantlen, of Hicksville, Ohio, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Russ (Carolyn) Scantlen, of Defiance, Ohio, and Bob (Irene) Scantlen, of Ney, Ohio, and two sisters, Shirley Stevens, of Defiance, Ohio, and Linda Hall, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one brother, Don Scantlen. Visitation for George J. “Jim” Scantlen will be on Saturday, July 28, 2007, from 4-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home at 860 West Mulberry Street in Bryan, Ohio. There will be no services and interment will be private. Memorials in the name of George J. “Jim” Scantlen may be given to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers - Hospice Care or to the Defiance County Fair Foundation.
