Earl Armstrong, age 77, of Hamilton, Indiana, died at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2006, in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he had been admitted on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Armstrong was a 1955 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University and received his Master’s Degree from Ball State University. He was a pastor for fifty-one years and was currently serving the California United Presbyterian Church in California, Michigan, where he has served the last thirty-six years. He was an elementary school teacher and administrator serving the DeKalb and Hamilton school systems for seventeen years. He was also the owner of Armstrong Coin and Jewelry in Angola, Indiana, with his sons for twelve years. Earl enjoyed talking with friends, walking and being outdoors. He found fulfilment in outdoor yard work and enjoyed time on the lake with family. The biggest blessings in his life were the fellowship and friendship he shared with his congregation at the California United Presbyterian Church and his relationships with his family. Earl Armstrong was born on December 5, 1929, in Port Jefferson, Ohio, the son of William E. and Myrtle A. (Schaffer) Armstrong. He married his wife of fifty-seven years, Evelyn J. Moore, on July 5, 1949, in Montpelier, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Armstrong is survived by three sons, Jerry (Helen) Armstrong, of Waterloo, Indiana, Lynn (Jing) Armstrong, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lyle Armstrong, of Angola, Indiana, eleven grandchildren, Matt (Candie) Armstrong, Lori (Jody) Wiedenhoeft, Mandy Shepherd, Nathan Armstrong, Stephanie (Lance) Witham, Travis (Maritza) Armstrong, Scott (Devan) Armstrong, Seth (Cathy) Armstrong, Melissa Armstrong and Shannon Armstrong, and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Gene (Diane) Armstrong, of Perry, Ohio, and Larry (Kay) Armstrong, of Clear Lake, Indiana, and three sisters, Pat R. Hay, of Edon, Ohio, Shirley M. Tibbs, of Angola, Indiana, and Linda (Steve) Welmer, of Bradenton, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Glenna Derringer and Eileen Armstrong, and a brother, William Armstrong. Services for Earl Armstrong will be on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, with Pastor Ralph Diehl officiating. Interment will follow in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, January 1, 2007. Memorials in the name of Earl Armstrong may given to the California United Presbyterian Church in California, Michigan.
