Jerald (Jerry) E. Goebel, age 64, of Edgerton, Ohio, died early on Monday, January 8, 2007, shortly after admittance to Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville, Ohio. Mr. Goebel was employed by Edgerton Manufacturing for twenty-five years until the plant closed. He then worked at Defiance Precision Products, Edon Machine, Dana Corporation in Antwerp and retired from Charleston Metals in Waterloo, Indiana. Mr. Goebel was a reserve police officer with the Edgerton Police Department in the 1970s. He was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Hicksville Eagles. Jerald E. Goebel was born on December 6, 1942, near Edgerton, Ohio, the son of Cletus N. and Kathleen M. (Davis) Goebel. He married Darlene J. Rath on August 11, 1962, in Edgerton, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Goebel is survived by one daughter, Darla (Thane) Faber, of Edgerton, Ohio, and one son, Dean (Tammy) Goebel, of Bryan, Ohio, seven grandchildren, David, Zachary, Karley and Dacoda Faber and Tara, Jeffrey and Dylan Goebel, and one great-grandson, Braeden Hancock. He is also survived by his mother, Kathleen Goebel, of Edgerton, Ohio, one brother, Tom Goebel, of Sandusky, Ohio, and one sister, Barbara Flory, of Defiance, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, John Goebel. Services for Jerald E. Goebel will be on Thursday, January 11, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church in Edgerton with Father Stephen Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Edgerton. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton, Ohio, on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, from 2-8 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 8:00 p.m. Memorials in the name of Jerald E. Goebel may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or School or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
