Edward Lamar Smith, age 63, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 10:10 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio, after a long-term illness. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of A.M.V.E.T. and a lifetime member of the Bryan V.F.W Post #2489. He was the owner and operator of Smith Auto Painting and Detailing for thirty years. Edward L. Smith was born on September 18, 1945, in Bellaire, Ohio, the son of Wilmont and Clara E. (Bennington) Smith. He married Venetia (Dilworth) Pawlowicz on March 29, 1975, and she survives. Mr. Smith is also survived by a son, Robert J. Smith, of Bryan, Ohio, a step-son, Tim (Pam) Pawlowicz, of Montpelier, four step-daughters, Vickie (Dave) Beek, Jennifer (Jeremy) Flint, both of Bryan, Ohio, Patricia (Jack) Heady, of Newport, Michigan, and Loretta Best, of Toledo, Ohio, a sister, Susie (Jim) Spire-Wolford, of Montpelier, Ohio, as well as two other sisters, three brothers, and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Sandy Smith, and two grandsons, Timothy Pawlowicz, Jr. and Chris Williams. The family will receive visitors over the weekend at the Smith residence. Services will be private with interment at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier with military rites conducted by Bryan V.F.W. Post #2489. Memorials in the name of Edward L. Smith may be given to Hospital Hospice and Home Health, Bryan, or Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance.
