Garwood G. Hardy, age 85, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 7:35 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008, in Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he was a patient. Mr. Hardy attended Bryan High School and entered the United States Marines, serving in World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater with the Fourth Marine Division, including battles on Saipan and at Iwo Jima, receiving two Purple Hearts and a Gold Star. After discharge from the service, he worked as an officer with the Bryan Police Department, in sales for Sears and was a Regional Manager for Combined Insurance Company. He was a graduate of Lexington Baptist College in Kentucky. In 1968, he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, as a Regional Manager of Combined Insurance Company. While in Alaska, Mr. Hardy was also employed by the Anchorage Police Department in the Judicial Department. He was assistant pastor at Bethal Chapel in Anchorage, then became Director of the Arms of Love Mission in Wassila, and was Pastor at Bayview Bible Baptist Church in Wassila. Upon moving back to Ohio, he became pastor of the Amboy Baptist Church in Camden, Michigan, and then of the Lifeline Bible Baptist Church in Pioneer, Ohio. He was also director of the Yoke Fellowship Camp near Edgerton, Ohio. Mr. Hardy was also proud of his mission trips, three to the Ukraine, three to Cuba and one to the Fiji Islands. Garwood G. Hardy was born on November 12, 1922, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of John J. and Joey (Busch) Hardy. He married Norma (Easler) Carlson on October 16, 1976, in Anchorage, Alaska, and she survives. In addition his wife, Mr. Hardy is survived by his children, Cheryl (Clyde) Bass, of Abilene, Texas, Pamela (Charles) McClellan, of Montpelier, Ohio, Mindy (Michael) Beeson, of Anaheim, California, Christina (Raymond) Roelfs, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Kim (Barbara) Carlson, of Edgerton, Ohio, fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Carlton (Evelyn) Hardy, of Bryan, Ohio, Keith (Janet) Hardy, of Defiance, Ohio, and John (Nancy) Hardy, of Douglas, Michigan, and a sister, Myra Crawford, of Lynchburg, Virginia. Services for Garwood, G. Hardy will be on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, with Dr. William Haag officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home two hours prior to the service, from 9-11 a.m. Military rites will be conducted by John D. Smith Post #10 of the Edgerton American Legion. Interment will be in Evansport Cemetery. Memorials in the name of Garwood G. Hardy may be given to the Independent Baptist Mission in Florida or to the Navajo Baptist Mission in New Mexico.
