Leslie L. Hake

Leslie L. Hake, age 84, of Edon, Ohio, died on Friday, April 11, 2008, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, from complications of cardiac surgery. Mr. Hake was a 1941 graduate of Edon High School, received a degree in agriculture from Michigan State University in 1949 and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was employed by the Ohio Turnpike, retiring in 1990 with thirty-four years of service and was a lifelong farmer. He was a lifelong member of the Bethlehem Christian Union Church, Edon American Legion Post #662, was an Honorary Chapter Farmer with the Edon FFA and bowled in the Senior Bowling League in Bryan, Ohio. He also served twenty years on the Edon Northwest School Board. Leslie L. Hake was born on April 13, 1923, in Edon, Ohio, the son of Albert and Alice (Shearer) Hake. He married Annabelle Messner on March 22, 1947, in LaGrange, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on September 28, 1995. Mr. Hake is survived by four sons, Alan (Janie) Hake, of Montpelier, Ohio, Rick (Cheryl) Hake, Terry (Trina) Hake and Jon (Vicki) Hake, all of Edon, Ohio, two daughters, DeeAnn (John) Heller, of Pioneer, Ohio, and Jackie (Glenn) Pelz, of Montpelier, Ohio, fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a special friend, Janet Simmons, of West Unity, Ohio, two brothers, Roger (Dorothy) Hake, of Edon, and Larry (Arlene) Hake, of Edon, Ohio, one sister, Phyllis (Richard) Dietrich, of Bryan, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Hake, of Edon, Ohio. In addition to his wife, Annabelle, Mr. Hake was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Hollis Hake. Services for Leslie L. Hake will be on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bethlehem Christian Union Church near Edon, Ohio, with Pastor Phil Harris officiating. Interment with follow in the Edon Cemetery, with graves side military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon, Ohio, after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14. Memorials in the name of Leslie L. Hake may be given to the Williams County Veterans Memorial Building or to Bethlehem Christian Union Church.
