Jack R. Martenies, age 10, of Edgerton, Ohio, died shortly after admittance to Defiance Regional Medical Center in Defiance, Ohio after an accidental drowning near Sherwood, Ohio. Jack attended the Victory Barn Church near Edgerton where he was very active in the youth group. He was an avid video gamer, and football, wrestling and NASCAR enthusiast. He would be entering the 5th grade this fall at the Edgerton Local Schools. Jack R. Martenies was born October, 7, 1998, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Royce E. and Candius L. (Vachon) Martenies. Jack is survived by his parents in Edgerton, Ohio, his brother and sisters, Megan, Patrick, and Olivia Martenies, all at home, maternal grandparents, Vicki and Neil Vachon, of Antwerp, Ohio, and William James Johnson, of West Palm Beach, Florida, his paternal grandmother, Lois Martenies, of Antwerp, Ohio, maternal great-grandparents, Richard and Donna Vachon, of Fort Wayne, Indiana and James and Martha Johnson, of Antwerp, Ohio. He is also survived by his godfather, Ricky Martenies and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Raymond Martenies, Sr., great-grandparents, William and Betty Altic and an uncle John Francis Vachon. Visitation for Jack R. Martenies will be held from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio. Services will be held on Thursday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m. in the Victory Barn Church near Edgerton, Ohio with visitation one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton, Ohio. Memorials in the name of Jack R. Martenies may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
