Ted A. Smith, age 85, of Hamilton, Indiana, and formerly of Edon, Ohio, died at 11:39 a.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2006, at the Dilworth Center of Community Hospitals and Wellness Center of Williams County in Montpelier, Ohio, after an illness of one month. Mr. Smith was a 1940 graduate of West Unity High School, where he lettered in track, baseball and basketball. During World War II he served in the Naval Air Corps as a blimp pilot. He was a self-employed farmer and also worked at Edon Machine until his retirement in 1986 with over twenty years of service. He played the on the traveling baseball team for Blakeslee and also was a little league coach and 4-H advisor in Blakeslee for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee and the Knights of Columbus, Edon American Legion Post #662 and Hamilton Fish and Game. Ted A. Smith was born on July 26, 1921, in Mark Center, Ohio, the son of Loren and Regent (Lane) Smith. He married Eileen M. Siebenaler on May 6, 1944, in Blakeslee, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by four sons, Gary (Kathy) Smith, of Delroy, Ohio, Alan (Mary Lynn) Smith, of Alexandria, Virginia, Dana (Linda) Smith, of Auburn, Illinois, Lynn (Karen) Smith, of Franklin, Tennessee, two daughters, Janet (Ed) Morr, of Edon, Ohio, and Maryann (Perry) Asuncion, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandchild, Elliott Biehl, two brothers, Lane and Warren Smith, and one sister, Marybel McMaster. Services for Ted A. Smith will be on Thursday, October 26, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, Ohio, with Father Stephen Schroeder and Father Frederick Duschl officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon, Ohio, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, with recitation of the rosary at 8:00 p.m. Memorials in the name of Ted A. Smith may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church Renovation Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
