Joyce K. Hootman

View Video Tribute Joyce K. Hootman, age 72, of Edgerton, Ohio, died on Monday, January 22, 2007, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, after a battle with cancer. Mrs. Hootman was a 1952 graduate of Edgerton High School and a Home Interior Displayer for over thirty years. She was a member of the Edgerton Church of Christ, where she was active in the ladies aide and as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and was Queen Mother of the Hidden Cove, Florida, Red Hat Society. She was also a member of the Edgerton Garden Club and the 111th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (O.V.I). She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and spending time with friends and family. She was also an avid baseball fan and loved to travel and go camping. Joyce K. Hootman was born on December 1, 1934, near Edgerton, Ohio. She was the daughter of Walter and Mary Kathryn (Miller) Humbarger. She married Vern H. Hootman on January 30, 1954, in Edgerton and he survives. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hootman is survived by her children, Steve Hootman, of Edgerton, Ohio, Kathy (John) Bailey, of Cary, North Carolina, Christine (Allan Wright) Hootman, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jackie (Dan) O’Dowd, of Denver, Colorado, and Christopher (Lillie) Hootman, of Dayton, Ohio. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Ollie Rindos, Colette Schroeder, Andi Casebere, Drake Bailey, Shannon and Bradey Wright, Christopher, Lexie and Jack O’Dowd, Justin, Joshua, Jaclynn, Jacob and Jared Hootman, one great-granddaughter, Grace Schroeder, and four sisters, Diane Mazeppi, of El Cajon, California, Carma Merker, of Piqua, Ohio, Eileen Davis, of Vandalia, Ohio, and Elaine Boggs, of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Services for Joyce K. Hootman will be on Saturday, January 27, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. in the Edgerton Church of Christ with Minister D.V. Dillinger officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton, Ohio. Visitation will be on Friday, January 26, 2007, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio. Memorials in the name of Joyce K. Hootman may be given to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge at 2806 Reading Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206 or to the Edgerton Church of Christ at 224 Laubach Drive, Edgerton, Ohio 43517.
