Jessie E. Battenhouse

Jessie Elizabeth Battenhouse, age 93, of Spring Arbor, Michigan, died on Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at W. A. Foote Hospital in Jackson, Michigan, where she was a patient. Mrs. Battenhouse was a 1932 graduate of Albion High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Albion College in 1936. She served various churches as organist for over fifty-seven years, including Birmingham First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Michigan, and the Ormond Beach, Florida, Sea Breeze United Church. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists. Jessie Elizabeth Battenhouse was born on July 20, 1913, the daughter of Wilbert L. and Carrie B. (Neil) Willis. She married Ralph Henry Battenhouse on August 27, 1938, in Albion, Michigan, and he preceded her in death on October 4, 1995. Survivors are her son, David Battenhouse, of Phoenix, Arizona, two sisters, Mrs. W. Floyd (Dorothy) Smith, of Allen Park, Michigan, and Mrs. Allen (Mildred) Rayborn, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, one brother, Dr. D. E. Neil, of Beckley, West Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a later date.
