John Ramsey Thiel, age 83, of Bryan, Ohio, died Sunday, September 24, 2017 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. Mr. Thiel was a member of Grace Community Church in Bryan. He had been a First Aid instructor for the American Red Cross, was the Sunday school superintendent at St. Paul’s Methodist Church and was past president of the Phoenix Craftsman Club. John Ramsey Thiel was born on August 31, 1934, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Owen B. and Edith E. (Ramsey) Thiel. He married Jean M. Colgrove on December 1, 1978, in Phoenix, Arizona, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Mark O. Thiel, of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Jeffrey L. Thiel, of Jackson, Tennessee; one daughter, Susan M. DeMuth, of Meritt Island, Florida; stepdaughter, Luverne (Steve) Adamson, of Edmore, Michigan; stepsons, John M. Hodapp, of Peurta Villarta, Mexico, Gene “Corky” Hodapp, of Toledo and Michael T. Simon, of Toledo; 15 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alan Thiel and stepson, Carl R. Dickinson. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Grace Community Church. Arrangements are under the care of Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Grace Community Church or an organization of the donor’s choice.
