William M. Blakely, age 87, of Bryan, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord at 6:35 A.M. on Friday, August 4, 2017, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Center- Bryan. Bill worked in maintenance and as service manager for Carrol Ames Hardware in Bryan for 40 years and owned the former Palace Bowling Alley for 8 years, from 1953-1961. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War serving from 1951-1953 and in the Reserves from 1953-1957. Mr. Blakely was a member of the Bryan Church of the Nazarene, was an avid golfer, bowler and fan of the Cleveland Indians.
William M. Blakely was born December 24, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of William C. and Gertrude L. (Schillinger) Blakely. He married Zelma Dunlap on April 25, 1954 and she survives.
Bill is also survived by his children, Laura (Robert) Knapp, of Bryan, William C. (Maryanne) Blakely, of Montpelier, Brian (Gail) Blakely, of Brooklyn, Michigan, Sandra (Thomas) Dennie, of Napoleon and Angie (Tom) Cramer, of Bryan; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and a sister, Patsy (Richard) Thierry, of Bryan. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Jean Miller and Marcene Hartman.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bryan Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Roger Blough officiating. Burial will follow at Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan with graveside military rites provided by the Bryan VFW Post #2489 and the US Army Honor Guard.
