Martha “Joy” Ames, age 95, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away early Sunday morning, July 30, 2017, in her home. Mrs. Ames was a 1940 graduate of Farmer High School and had been employed by First Federal Bank in Bryan as a teller for twenty-seven years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan, Women of the Moose and the Hospital Auxiliary, where she enjoyed working in the gift shop. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and family.
Martha “Joy” Ames was born on September 28, 1921, in Scipio Township, Indiana, the daughter of H. Ray and Alda Joy (Driver) Gustin. She married Gerald P. Ames on August 25, 1943, in Farmer, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on January 8, 1994.
Survivors include three sons, Gerry (Gwen) Ames, of Holland, Ohio, Alva (Carol) Ames, of Stryker, Ohio, and Dennis (Cindy) Ames, of Bryan; seven grandchildren, April Ames, Alison Ames-Curro, Laura Rodriguez, Alex Ames, Megan Ames, Katie Cline and Chad Brace; and seven great-grandchildren, Trevor, Ellie, Tyson, and Tyler Rodriguez, and Tess, Meg and Kit Ames. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Glenna Palmer, Mary Ann Wingfield, Frieda Miller and Irma Bade, and one brother, Gordon Gustin.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. in the Bryan First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Barry Sweet officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan.
