Donald D. Butler, Sr., age 96, of Bryan, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Glenn Park Assisted Living in Defiance, where he was a resident. Mr. Butler was a Postal Clerk at the Bryan Post Office for 35 years. He was a veteran of The United States Army Air Force having served during World War II in Europe. He was a Second Lieutenant and served as a navigator in the 391st Bombardment Squadron. He flew four mission before being shot down and held as a Prisoner of War in Germany for 11 months. He was a member of Bryan VFW Post 2489 and the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan. Donald D. Butler, was born September 30, 1920, in near Nettle Lake, Ohio, the son of Harley and Ada (Dean) Butler. He married Margaret “Marnie” Culbertson on January 10, 1943 and she preceded him in death in 1985. Donald is survived by one daughter, Susan (John) Martin, of Bryan, Ohio; sons, Jon Butler, of Alpina, Michigan and Dr. Paul (Jennifer) Butler, of Oro Valley, Arizona; eight grandchildren, David Martin, of Marysville, Ohio, Scott Martin, of Louisville, Kentucky, Matthew (Samantha) Martin, of Bryan, Joseph (Kali) Smith, of Alpina, Michigan, Lisa (Kyle) Cleland, of Bay City, Michigan, Kristin (Sean) Delahanty, of Chicago, Kara (Bryan) Jackson, of Pittsburgh and Kevin Butler, of Oro Valley, Arizona; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn (Carlton) Hardy, of Bryan and his brother, Robert Butler, of Defiance. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Donald D. Butler, Jr. and sister, Mary Boysen. Services for Donald D. Butler, Sr. will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry St, Bryan, Ohio. Memorials in the name of Donald D. Butler, Sr. may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or the Williams County Veterans Memorial Building.
