Melvin L. "Joe" Meyer, age 76, of Auburn, Indiana, died on Saturday, February 18, 2017, in his home. Mr. Meyer was a 1959 graduate of Edgerton High School, where he was a member of the 1959 state championship basketball team. He had been employed as an executive with Sprint Communications in Apopka, Florida, retiring in 1998 with more than thirty years of service. Joe was a member of the Butler, Indiana, Eagles and was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Florida Gators, Boston Red Sox and his hometown Edgerton Bulldogs. He also enjoyed playing golf.
Melvin L. "Joe" Meyer was born on February 4, 1941, in Edgerton, Ohio, the son of George Edward and Margaret Mae (Miles) Meyer. He married Lorna A. Thigpen on June 13, 1999, in Mount Dora, Florida, and she survives.
Survivors also include one daughter, Amanda Whitney Meyer, of Eustis, Florida; three sons, Christopher Allen and Gregory (Karen) Meyer, of Apopka, Florida, and Russell Allen (Shawna) Meyer, of San Diego, California; three grandchildren, Amber Winemiller and Jessica and Benjamin Meyer; two brothers, Bruce (Anna) Meyer, of Auburn, and Dennis (Lisa) Meyer, of Antwerp, Ohio; and one sister, Linda Elson, of Montpelier, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jim Meyer, and one sister, Norma Grunden.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, from 1:00-4:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 114 East Hull Street, Edgerton.
