Eugene Vollmer, age 85, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 11:58 A.M. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, Ohio, where he was a patient. Mr. Vollmer was a 1949 graduate of Farmer High School. He was a lifelong farmer and had also driven truck privately and for Ney Co-op and had also been a crop adjuster for several years. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, was a former board member of the Ney Co-op for eleven years and was a member of the NRA. Gene loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Eugene A. Vollmer was born on June 6, 1931, in Farmer Township, the son of Adrian E. and Dorothy A. (Manon) Vollmer. He married Irene M. Snodgrass on June 29, 1952, and she preceded him in death in 1965. He then married Barbara A. (Treesh) Buchs on August 20, 1966, and she survives.
Survivors also include two sons, Kenneth (Kay) Vollmer, of Edon, Ohio, and David W. (Cheri) Vollmer, of Edgerton; two daughters, Carol Vollmer, in Georgia, and Sandi J. (John) Hurd, of Nelsonville, Ohio; two stepchildren, Steven D. (Brenda) Buchs, of Defiance, and Bonnie K. (Gordon) Underwood, of Bryan, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald (Donna) Vollmer and Carl (Janet) Vollmer, both of Edgerton; a sister-in-law, Betty Vollmer, of Sherwood, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one son, Dennis R. Vollmer, and a brother, Bob L. Vollmer.
Grave side services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Edgerton with Pastor Kurt Letcher officiating. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are requested to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or Community Health Professionals Hospice Care.
