Helen M. Hays, age 95, passed away at 12:40 P.M. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Hillside Country Living, near Bryan, Ohio, where she was a resident. Helen was a homemaker and had worked for several area companies, including Perfection Biscuit, Bryan Canning, Beam Stream, and Robinair. Helen attended the Edon United Methodist Church and was a member of the Nettle Lake Garden Club and Ladies Aid and the Farm Bureau Advisory Council, had been a 4-H leader for the Spic & Span Club and frequently attended the Edon Senior Center. She was a sports fan who enjoyed watching golf and football, bird watching, but most of all, was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Born on December 10, 1921, in Amboy Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan, she was the daughter of Walter and Florence (Perego) Reader. Helen was a graduate of Pioneer High School. She married Eugene L. Hays on June 23, 1942, in Victoria, Texas, and he preceded her in death in 2005.
Helen is survived by her children, Robert E. Hays, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Linda A. Glaser, of Plainfield, Indiana, Dorothy E. (Jim) Goodwin, of Panama City, Florida, and Joseph M. (Jennifer) Hays, of Montpelier; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Forrest, Walter and Paul Reader, and daughter-in-law, Gloria Hays.
Visitation for Helen M. Hays will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. at Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Doug Widdowson officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier, Ohio.
