Gene D. Schubert, age 86, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 8:39 A.M. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Hillside Country Living, where he had been a resident. Mr. Schubert was a graduate of Ayersville High School and served in the United States Army in Korea, where he was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat. He retired from L. E. Smith in Bryan. Gene was a member of the Silver Creek Church of the Brethren in Pioneer, Ohio, and Trail Alongs Camping Club. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and traveling.
Gene D. Schubert was born on April 3, 1930, in Continental, Ohio, the son of Olin and Kathryn (Hill) Schubert. He married I. June Hale on August 13, 1950, in Ayersville, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on February 3, 2004.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianne (Raymond) Shaffer, of West Unity, Ohio, and Deena (Larry) Shaffer, of Bryan, Ohio; one son, Dale (Pamela) Schubert, of Clyde, Ohio; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; his twin brother, Jack Schubert, of Defiance, Ohio; and sisters, Marilyn Smith, of Continental, Ohio, and Loretta (Don) Wight, of Madison, Alabama. Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his parents and a brother, Allen Schubert.
Services for Gene D. Schubert will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Ted Mathes officiating. Interment will be in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan, Ohio, with grave side military rites conducted by Bryan VFW Post #2489 and the United States Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M.
