Marjorie B. Byroads, 95, of Bryan, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 26, 2016. She had been a resident of Genesis Healthcare since 2013.
Born in Picher, Oklahoma on January 13, 1921, Marjorie was the daughter of Anna (Major) and James W. Lawson. She attended schools in southwest Missouri and Orange, California, graduating from Orange High School in 1938.
On June 14, 1941, Marjorie was married to Noel Byroads in Inglewood, California. In 1946 they moved to Ohio and purchased a home in Williams Center, where they raised their four children.
Marjorie was an active member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Williams Center for 67 years. She served as district president in United Methodist Women, as president of Bryan Women’s Aglow Fellowship and as chairman of the Bryan Area Christian Prayer Breakfast. She loved teaching children in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Kids Bible Club. She ministered in song in area churches, senior citizens groups and Harborside (Genesis) Healthcare, accompanied by her autoharp. Marjorie served as board member and volunteer for Church Women United Thrift Shop. She formed and led a local chapter of Concerned Women for America. She was a volunteer at Community Pregnancy Center and Bryan Senior Center prayer group.
Marjorie wrote a weekly Christian column, “Musings and Meditations by Marj” for several years in The Bryan Times and Hicksville News-Tribune. She also wrote meditations and articles published in several magazines, including The Upper Room. In addition, she self-published a book containing songs and meditations, Sing and the Son Will Come Shining Through. Marjorie led a writer’s workshop for many years.
Marjorie’s life was fulfilling because of her faith in God and Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord.
Marjorie is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Currier, of Bryan; a son, Robert (Shauna), of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noel “Curly” Byroads; sons, Terry and John; two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at the Williams Center Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. David Cottrell officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the memorial service at 4:00 p.m. A private graveside service is being held for the family at Fountain Grove Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan.
Memorials may be given to the Williams Center Asbury United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
