Florence M. Riggs, age 100, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the Inn at Fountain Park in Bryan. She was a longtime resident of Northwest Township and Edon, Ohio.
Florence was born on July 3, 1916, in Richland Township, Henry County, Ohio, the daughter of Morton J. and Olive M. (Dunkle) Tobias. She is survived by her sons, Charles Riggs, of Clinton Township, Michigan, and James (Terry) Riggs, of Bryan; four grandchildren, Brenda (John) Armstrong, of Auburn, Indiana, Bonnie (Jerry) Rattigan, of North Charleston, South Carolina, Traci (Greg) Hartman, of Bryan, and Todd Riggs, of West Unity, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Eldon J. Tobias, and a sister, Marjorie Dobmeyer.
In her 100 years, Florence led a full and productive life. She told stories of growing up in Grelton, Ohio, where her father was a blacksmith and her mother was a storekeeper. Florence loved to sew, knit, read and spend time with her grandchildren, who loved her in return, especially enjoying her sense of humor. She obtained her LPN license and worked as a nurse, and even survived the tornado of 1991, which took the roof from her home.
In accordance with Florence's wishes, there will be private visitation for family only on Monday, October 31.
