Charles D. “Charlie” Powell, age 68, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away early on Friday, September 23, 2016, at Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville after a brief illness. Mr. Powell was a veteran of the United States Army and was employed by Bob’s Auto Repair in Hicksville. He was a permanent IHRA Licensee, building and racing his own cars since 1971, at Norwalk and Avilla. He also enjoyed riding his Harley.
Charles D. Powell was born on November 2, 1947, in Simpson, West Virginia, the son of Edward and Georgia (Lockhart) Powell. He married Helen L. Crabtree on July 15, 1978, in Antwerp, Ohio, and she survives.
Survivors also include one son, Charles “Charlie” Powell II, of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Dawn (James) Ish, of Hicksville, and Dusty Powell, of Sherwood. Ohio; three grandchildren, Summer Powell and Maxwell and Logun Ish; and three sisters, Sue Sadler, of Akron, Ohio, Linda West, of Antwerp, and Shirley Jenkins, of Payne, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Doug and Carl Powell.
A Celebration of Charlie’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016, beginning at 3:00 P.M. at Riverside Family Center in Antwerp.
