Harriett Lilly

October 14, 1935 — July 2, 2016

E. Harriett Lilly, age 80, of rural Bryan, Ohio, died at 5:45 A.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2016, in her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Lilly graduated from the Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing in Champaign, Illinois, and had a long and varied career working as a registered nurse. She had been employed by Hicksville Community Memorial Hospital for fourteen years and later worked for Bryan Hospital, Hillside Country Living and then as a home health care nurse until her retirement. Her skill and art of caring for others left many remembering and honoring her long after she touched their lives. Harriett was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Williams Center, Ohio, and Bryan Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Harriett loved the arts; be it involvement in the Community Theater, Art Clan, Quilting Bee or just listening to the family pickin’ and grinnin’ in the living room. She was deeply imbued in the creative realms. She was mischievous and ornery while always holding her loved ones close. Her “Yoo-hoo” was legendary as was the fish fry she planned every spring. Travel surely filled her years; to fish in Whitefish Falls, Canada, visit family in Illinois, and to Donna, Texas in retirement. These trips were documented in her hundreds of sketch books. E. Harriett Lilly was born on October 14, 1935, in Humboldt, Illinois, the daughter of Charles William and Lois M. (Freesh) Fleming. She married Hanson C. Lilly on June 26, 1956, in Angola, Indiana, and he survives. Survivors also include one daughter, Colby Cook, of Issaquah, Washington; one son, Hanson Kyle (Laurie) Lilly, of Adrian, Michigan; her grandchildren, Colin and Claire Cook and Jenna, Kelsie, Hanson, Caleb and Whitney Lilly; two brothers, Charles William Fleming, of Humboldt, Illinois, and Russell Ernest (June) Fleming, of Bryan; one sister, Mary Jane (Charles) Taylor, of Mattoon, Illinois; and her nephews and nieces. In keeping with Harriett’s wishes, her body was gifted to the University of Toledo Medical College. Services will be held on July 30, 2016, at the Lilly’s home, beginning at 2:00 P.M., with an Open House immediately following, and have been entrusted to Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Memorials are requested to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
