Demaris M. Rice, age 79, of Farmer, Ohio, passed away at 2:33 A.M. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, after an extended illness. Mrs. Rice graduated from International Business College with a degree in secretarial science, certified in keyboarding and shorthand. She was employed by White Motor Company in Montpelier, Ohio, for several years and then with Dr. Bloosom the Chiropractor. She went to work as a secretary for the Defiance City Schools while attending Defiance College and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and later received her Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Bowling Green State University. She taught at St. Mary Catholic School in Edgerton and also served as principal, then worked with the severely handicapped for the Defiance County Board of Education until her retirement. Demaris attended the Farmer United Methodist Church.
Demaris M. Rice was born on June 13, 1936, in Auburn, Indiana, the daughter of Louis R. and Lois E. (Wideman) McDougall. Survivors include two sons, Larry (Shelly) Rice, of Ney, Ohio, and Rick (Sharon) Rice, of Montpelier; one daughter, Debra (Robb) Chadwell, of Cicero, Indiana; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Geneva Sigler, of Auburn, Indiana,and Vada Albright, of Waterloo, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Louis (and his wife, Marie) McDougall; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Albright and Harley Sigler.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with Pastor Ron Adkins officiating. Private interment will take place in Farmer Cemetery.
