Marcena D. (Bishop) Bly, age 101, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 4:10 P.M. on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, near Defiance, Ohio, after a brief illness. Mrs. Bly was employed by Ohio Art for a number of years until they switched from toys to war products during World War II. During the war she worked in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at the bomber plant before returning to Bryan and Ohio Art again. She then worked at 50 Corp. for 4 ½ years. A lifelong member of Bryan First Church of Christ, Marcena was also a Gray Lady at the hospital for six years and was chairman for one year. She had been a member of the VFW since 1962. One of her greatest joys was attending the Bryan Senior Center, where she was a member of the “Kitchen Band.” Marcena Delphine (Bishop) Bly was born on May 18, 1914, the daughter of John H. and Marcena O. (Rhoades) Bishop at their East High Street Home in Bryan with Dr. Pembroke attending. She married Charles E. McDonald in June of 1933 and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1939. She then married Robert Bly on August 3, 1951, and he preceded her in death on January 3, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Dee Brinkman, of Lake Worth, Florida, and Sally Whitford, of Bryan; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Charles L. McDonald, on November 28, 1999; her siblings, Sarah (Bishop) Fox, Ruth (Bishop) Funk, Daniel Bishop, Mary (Bishop) Clark, and two infant brothers. Services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Interment will follow in West Buffalo Cemetery near Edgerton, Ohio. Visitation will be held in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, on Friday, March 18, 2016, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Memorials are requested to the Bryan Senior Center.
