Robert M. Vorthman, age 79, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at 1:00 A.M. on Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Genesis HealthCare-Bryan Center. Mr. Vorthman worked for over 30 years at the GM Foundry in Defiance, Ohio. He was an avid reader and loved action movies. He considered himself a “foodie” and always enjoyed his chocolate. He also enjoyed playing pool, watching sports and riding his motorcycle. He had been a member of the Eagles and American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Born May 22, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was the son of Oscar M. and Zola M. (Staats) Vorthman. Robert is survived by his daughters, Lori Stoner, of Bryan, Jodi Houts, of James Island, South Carolina, and Kathryn Vorthman, of Defiance; granddaughters, Heather Stoner and Melanie Stoner, both of Bryan, and Tara Houts, of James Island, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, May, Brandon, Jacob and Gage Gilbert and Bella Sumner, all of Bryan, and Rowan Grimes, of James Island, South Carolina; and a brother, George Vorthman. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Julian Houts, and a brother, Donovan Vorthman. Visitation for Robert M. Vorthman will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 25, 2016, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Norman Miller officiating. Burial at Fountain Grove Cemetery will follow the services with grave side military rites accorded by the Bryan VFW Post 2489. Memorials in the name of Robert M. Vorthman may be given to the Williams County Humane Society.
