Donald D. Ray, age 88, of West Unity, Ohio, died at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, shortly after admittance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, Ohio, after becoming ill while returning home from shopping with his family. Mr. Ray served in the United States Navy and worked as a mechanic for many years at the Mobil Station in West Unity for Amos Stauffer and then Dick Sutter. He was later employed by The Aro Corporation from 1965 until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed fishing, puttering around working on things and especially enjoyed being with family. Donald D. Ray was born in Williams County, Ohio, on June 16, 1927, the son of William “Merlin” and Hazel (Betzer) Ray. He married Dorthy E. Woolf on August 26, 1945, in West Unity and she survives. Survivors also include one daughter, Patricia (George) Herman, of Edgerton, Ohio; two granddaughters, Angela Wank and Joan (Timothy) Monfette, both of Edgerton; one sister, Dorothea Kuney, of Livonia, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Nancy (Junior) Hatfield, of Toledo, Ohio; a special family friend, Teri Mitchel, of Cecil, Ohio; and three great-granddogs, Cassie, Baby Doll and Dixie. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Pauline Baker and Donelda VanDoren. Services will be private with interment in Shiffler Cemetery near Bryan. Memorials are requested to a charity of the donor’s choice
