Lois M. Stombaugh, age 91, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 4:50 A.M. on Friday, September 4, 2015, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, near Defiance, Ohio. Mrs. Stombaugh was a 1941 graduate of Pioneer High School. She and her husband Paul farmed their land for nearly 40 years and she was a member of the Farm Bureau. Lois was also a member of Lick Creek Church of the Brethren, where she was a very active member and deaconess. Their daughter Janet was born in 1954, at a time when no opportunities were available for children with developmental disabilities. Lois and other mothers lead the drive to develop schools and other resources for these children. The efforts of these women in garnering county-wide support led to the establishment of Sunnyside School and later the workshop for people with developmental disabilities, QUADCO. Lois was born on September 18, 1923, in Williams County, Ohio, the daughter of Clyde and Ruth (Rosendaul) Kuszmaul. She married Paul L. Stombaugh on December 10, 1943, in Bryan and he preceded her in death on March 3, 2013. Lois is survived by two sons, Dennis Paul (Isabelle) Stombaugh, of Akron, Ohio, and Ned Alan (Lorisa) Stombaugh, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, Dawn Stombaugh, of Racine, Wisconsin, and Elizabeth Stombaugh, of Columbus, Ohio; and brothers, James Kuszmaul, of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and George (Betty) Kuszmaul, of Perrysburg, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, Todd Stombaugh, a daughter, Janet Stombaugh, brothers, Daniel and Richard Kuszmaul, and her sister, Nancy Kuszmaul. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 7, 2015, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. in the Lick Creek Church of the Brethren with Rev. Dr. Nancy Berkheiser officiating. Private interment will take place in Shiffler Cemetery near Bryan.
