Gene A. Casebere

September 25, 1931 — August 23, 2015

Gene Allen Casebere, age 83, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Gene was born in Bryan to Carmon D. and Ethel (Lash) Casebere. He was preceded in death by his parents; his dear sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Paul Brannan; and his son-in-law, Michael Farley. Gene graduated from Bryan High School in 1949. He married Audrey Dilts in 1950. Gene and Audrey enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 64 years. Gene is survived by his wife and four children, Cathy (Richard) Barrett, of Powell, Ohio, Susan (Michael) Renda, of Moreland Hills, Ohio, Stephen (Marlene) Casebere, of Bryan, and Timothy (Susan) Casebere, of Woodbridge, Virginia. Gene relished being a grandfather to Brooke (Joseph) Brenner, Matthew (Jessica) Renda, Ross (Molly) Casebere, Emily Renda, James (Leanna) Casebere, Evan Casebere, Andrew Casebere and Casey Barrett. He is also survived by a nephew, Larry Brannan, and a niece, Barbara Brannan. Gene enjoyed a long and rewarding career at The Aro Corporation, later Ingersoll-Rand. After his retirement, Gene spent several years working as a consultant to I-R. Gene spent many years serving as a Little League baseball coach, even before he had sons, and later to his sons and grandsons. He was passionate about baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers. As a lifelong member of Faith United Methodist Church, Gene quietly pursued his religious beliefs. He spent many years as a Sunday School teacher and small group leader. One of Gene’s interesting hobbies was beekeeping. He supplied many friends and neighbors with honey and was frequently called upon to transfer bees from one area to another, which he was always happy to do. Gene loved to work in his large garden, which provided enough vegetables to last the year round. Gene was a leader of the 49ers, his BHS alumni group. He was a member of the Bryan Moose. Gene was fortunate enough to have lived his dream lifestyle after retiring. He loved going out into his woods, creating paths and chopping down trees to provide firewood to heat his home. The family wishes to thank Gene’s home health care aides who helped Gene transition with dignity. Visitation for Gene will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, and one hour prior to funeral services on Friday at the church. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at Faith United Methodist Church in Bryan with Pastors Eric Dailey and Jeff Dye officiating. Burial at Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton, will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to Faith United Methodist Church.
