Francis E. Schindler, age 79, of rural Ney, Ohio, passed away at 10:20 A.M. on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in his home after an extended illness. A 1952 graduate of Ney High School, he was a farmer and retired from General Motors in Defiance, Ohio, with thirty years of service. Francis was active in the community, serving on the Defiance County Fair Board for fifty years, was a longtime member of the Ney Park Board, and served as a 4-H advisor for twenty-five years. He was a member of St. Isidore Marysdale Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and for many years served as the church cemetery sexton. Francis E. Schindler was born in Tiffin Township of Defiance County, Ohio, on September 19, 1935, the son of Edward Richard and Irene Helen (Batt) Schindler. He married Patsy Ann Daft on October 26, 1957, in Defiance and she survives. Survivors also include three daughters, Tammy (Ron) Robarge, of Bryan, Ohio, Barbara Wells, of Lehigh, Utah, and Mickey (Duane) Hearne, of Ney; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his siblings, Janice (Bob) Neiling, of Deshler, Ohio, Alma Jean Ewers, of Bryan, Ohio, Madonna (Lawrence) Brenner, of Stryker, Ohio, Marybelle Timbrook, of Hicksville, Ohio, Robert Schindler, of Bryan, and Cletus Schindler, of Liberty Center, Ohio. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Bruce, Hillary and Olivia Hearne; two sisters, Bernadette Sheets and Armella Schindler; and one brother, Richard Schindler. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, with a scripture service at 5:00 P.M. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Isidore Marysdale Catholic Church with Father Robert Kill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials are requested to Defiance County Hospice.
