Betty Jean Sanders, age 87, of Montpelier, Ohio, and a longtime resident of Bryan, Ohio, died at 5:00 A.M. on Monday, April 20, 2015, at Park View Nursing Center in Edgerton, Ohio, where she was a patient, after an extended illness. Mrs. Sanders was a 1946 graduate of Bryan High School and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Edgerton, where she was also a member of and past president of the Rosary Altar Society. She was a member of the Bryan American Legion Post #284 Auxiliary, of which she served as president six times, and was also a past president of the Williams County American Legion Auxiliary. Throughout the years, she served on numerous boards, was a Brownie leader with the troop from St. Patrick Catholic Church, was an active volunteer and longtime board member with Cancer Assistance of Williams County and was an honorary citizen with Boys and Girls Town. Betty Jean Sanders was born on April 4, 1928, in Bryan, Ohio, the daughter of Achiel and Myrtle (Donley) Carteyn. She married Harry M. Sanders on April 8, 1947, in Bryan, and he survives. Survivors also include four sons, Larry (Marilyn) Sanders, of Bryan, Mark (Mary) Sanders, of Edon, Ohio, Eric Sanders, of Bryan, and Craig (Glenda) Sanders, of Bryan; three daughters, Theresa (Michael) Arnold, of Kinderhook, Michigan, Sue Ann (Terry) Rhoades, of Sarasota, Florida, and Amy (Russell) Patten, of Bryan; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Janet Coleman, of Pikeville, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brother, Robert and Richard Carteyn, and a granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Eddy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 P.M.. Services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary Catholic Church, Edgerton, with Reverend David Cirata officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Edgerton. Memorials are requested to Cancer Assistance of Williams County or to Boys Town.
