Geraldine M. McKarns, age 90, of Sylvania, Ohio, and formerly of Temperance, Michigan, died at 12:30 A.M. on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Sunset Village, where she was a resident. Geraldine was a 1942 graduate of Edgerton High School. She retired as a secretary for Toledo Hospital and also worked with a local accountant during tax seasons. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance and was an avid reader and gardener. Geraldine M. McKarns was born on November 5, 1924, in Edgerton, Ohio, the daughter of Gilbert V. and Evelyn I. (Kinn) Schlachter. She married Chester H. McKarns on April 15, 1950, in Edgerton, and he preceded her in death on November 21, 1981. Survivors include one son, Greg McKarns, of Ottawa Lake, Michigan; one daughter, Constance (Tony) Licari, of Weatherford, Texas; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mary Alice Plotts, of Lake Worth, Florida. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Leo Schlachter. Services for Geraldine will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at 1:00 P.M. in St. Mary Catholic Church in Edgerton with Reverend David Cirata officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Edgerton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
