Jeanette “Sammy” Woodgeard, age 80, of Bryan, Ohio, died at her home on Monday, February 9, 2015. Sammy was a Commercial Artist her entire adult life. One of her early jobs was at the Federal Glass Company, where she designed the Rolling Rock beer bottle logo. She also worked with Gorny-Winzeler Printing and had many gallery shows in Bryan, Columbus and in North Carolina. Sammy taught art seminars, where her students ranged from school aged children through college. She also adjudicated many art shows. After moving to Bryan, she helped at the Bryan Area Animal Hospital, where she was an artisan dog groomer. She and her husband showed Siberian Huskies at many dog shows throughout the country, including the Westminster Dog Show. Sammy also created and designed a line of animal sympathy cards called Pawmarx, which were sold worldwide. Her artwork is on display at Community Hospitals of Williams County-Bryan, Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan and homes throughout the country. Sammy was also an active member of the Bryan community. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for over fifty years. She took part in many mission trips over the years, serving as the “in house” cook and giving art lessons to children. She designed the cross in the sanctuary of Wesley United Methodist Church, which was carved by John McNaughton. Sammy had been a member of the Claire Newcomer Club and the Bryan Civic League. Jeanette was born on June 30, 1934, in Lancaster, Ohio, the daughter of David W. and Edna M. (Snoke) Goodwin. She graduated from Lancaster High School. On June 12, 1955, Sammy married her high school sweetheart, Robert L. Woodgeard, in Lancaster, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on October 7, 2013. Sammy is survived by her children, Kimberly (Kevin) Shaffer, of Bryan, Kit (Toni) Woodgeard, of Highpoint, North Carolina, Todd Woodgeard, of Bryan, and Tracy (Rick) Mettert, of Bryan; six grandchildren, Kailey Shaffer, Ricky Hiatt, Alex Woodgeard, Rob Woodgeard, Skylar Mettert and Stevie Mettert; one great-grandchild, Caitriona Woodgeard; sister, JoAnn Bibler; brothers-in-law, Donald Woodgeard and Richard (Bobbie) Woodgeard; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Robert L. Woodgeard; and a sister, Jackie Boch. A gathering for friends to share stories of Jeanette “Sammy” Woodgeard’s life will be held on Saturday, February, 14, 2015, from 2:00-5:00 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bryan. Private family grave side services will be held in Brown Cemetery. Service arrangements have been entrusted to Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Memorials in the name of Sammy Woodgeard may be given to the Visiting Angels of Northwest Ohio.
